Xue Wang, who was a visiting graduate student in the Xia group, successfully defended her thesis and received her Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from Xiamen University, P. R. China.

Hsin-Chieh Peng (Ph.D. 2015) was selected to give an oral presentation at the Graduate Research Symposium organized by the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry as part of the homecoming event. His presentations was also selected by judges to receive a “First Place” prize.

Hsin-Chieh Peng passed his final exam (thesis defense) and became the 21st Ph.D. (the first at Georgia Tech) from the Xia group on 10/19/2015.

 

Eric Lee Took a New Position

Eric Lee (a former Ph.D. 2008) recently took a new position at Maxim Integrated as a Senior Member of Technical Staff. He is leading the chemical team to launch their first gas sensor for mobile platforms.

 

Dr. Benjamin Wiley Won the 2015 Beilby Medal and Prize

2015

Benjamin Wiley (a former Ph.D. 2007), who is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Duke University, was selected to receive the 2015 Beilby Medal and Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry. 

 

Dr. Ping Lu Became an Assistant Professor

Ping Lu (a former postdoc) accepted a position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Long Island University.

 

Dr. Yujie Xiong Won the CAPA Biomatik Distinguished Faculty Award

Yujie Xiong (a former postdoctoral fellow and a faculty member at the University of Science and Technology of China) was selected to receive the Chinese-American Chemistry & Chemical Biology Professors Association (CAPA) Biomatik Distinguished Faculty Award.

 

Dr. Weiyang Li Became an Assistant Professor

Weiyang Li (a former Ph.D. 2011) accepted a position of Assistant Professor in the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.

 

Hsin-Chieh Peng Won the VWR Safety Award

Hsin-Chieh Peng (Ph.D candidate) was selected as an inaugural recipient of the VWR Safety Award in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

 

Dr. Sara Skrabalak Won the Leo Hendrik Baekeland Award

Sara Skrabalak (a former postdoctoral fellow and a faculty member at Indiana University) was selected to receive the Leo Hendrik Baekeland Award from the North Jersey Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Dr. Xia is also a recipient of this award in 2005.

 

Dr. Alejandro Briseno Won the ACS AMI Young Investigator Award

Alejandro Briseno (a former Ph.D. 2008 and a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst) was chosen to receive the first ACS Applied Materials & interfaces Young Investigator Award. 

 

Dr. Sang-II Choi Became an Assistant Professor

Sang-II Choi (a former postdoc) accepted a position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Kyungpook National University, Republic of Korea.
