Dr. Younan Xia was born in Jingjiang, Jiangsu, China. He received his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from Harvard University (with Professor George M. Whitesides) in 1996, M.S. degree in inorganic chemistry from University of Pennsylvania (with the late Professor Alan G. MacDiarmid) in 1993, and B.S. degree in chemical physics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1987. He came to the United States in 1991.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR

Jinghui Zhang was born in Shandong province, China. She received her B.S. degree in environmental engineering from Yantai University in 2013 and M.S. degree in environmental engineering from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in 2016. She joined Shanghai Panda Machinery Co., Ltd. in 2016 as a water treatment engineer. In February 2019, she joined the Xia Group as a business administrator for research to manage the business activities of the lab and work with Dr. Xia on a number of different projects.

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWS

Dr. Jiajia Xue was born in Linfen, Shanxi province, China. She received her B.S. degree in 2010 and Ph.D. degree with Professor Liqun Zhang in 2015, both in Materials Science and Engineering from Beijing University of Chemical Technology. She joined the Xia group as a postdoctoral fellow in August 2015. Her research interests include the fabrication of novel scaffolds for nerve tissue engineering.

Dr. Da Huo was born in Changchun, Jilin province, China. He received his B.S. degree in 2010 and Ph.D. degree in 2015 with Professor Yong Hu, both in Material Science and Engineering from Nanjing University. He joined the Xia group as a postdoctoral fellow in October 2015. His research interests include the development of novel nanomedicine for cancer therapy.

Dr. Tong Wu was born in Shenyang, Liaoning province, China. She received her B.S. degree in Bioengineering from Shandong Agricultural University in 2011, M.S. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2014 and Ph.D. degree in Biomaterials Science in 2018, both with Professor Xiumei Mo from Donghua University. She joined the Xia group as a visiting graduate student in October 2016 and then started as a postdoctoral fellow in December 2018. Her research interests include the synthesis of nanostructured materials for biomedical, environmental, and energy-related applications.

Dr. Jichuan Qiu was born in Shandong province, China. He received his B.S. degree in Applied Chemistry in 2012 and Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry and Physics in 2018 with Professor Hong Liu, both from Shandong University. He joined the Xia group as a visiting graduate student in October 2016 and then started as a postdoctoral fellow in December 2018. His current research interests include the synthesis of nanostructured materials for biomedical applications.

Dr. Li Zhou was born in Hubei province, China. He received his Ph.D. degree of optics in 2009, M.S. degree of microelectronics and solid-state electronics in 2003, and B.S. degree of material physics in 2000, all from Wuhan University. He holds a position of Associate Professor at Wuhan University and joined the Xia group as a visiting scholar in June 2018. His research interest includes the functional nanomaterials in optical, energy-related, and biomedical applications.

Dr. Mingkai Liu was born in Jiaozuo, Henan province, China. He received his B.S. degree in chemical engineering and technology from Henan University in 2008 (China), M.S. degree in chemical engineering from Guangdong University of Technology in 2011 and Ph.D. degree in Department of Macromolecular Science from Fudan University in 2014. He holds a position of associate professor in Jiangsu Normal University and he joined Xia group as a visiting scholar from July, 2017. His research interests are mainly focused on the preparation of new functional nanomaterials and their further applications in the fields of catalysis, energy storage, and environmental science.

Dr. Yu Zhang was born in Shanxi province, China. She received her B.S. degree and Ph.D. degree both in Materials Science and Engineering from Nanjing University (China) in June 2012 and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in September 2017, respectively.  At present, she works as a postdoctoral fellow in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She joined the Xia group as a visiting scholar in June 2018. Her research interests include the synthesis of shape-controlled noble metals and their applications in electrochemical catalysis.  

Dr. Yanyan Yu was born in Inner Mongolia, China. She received her B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Jilin University in 2010 and M.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Analysis from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2015. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from 2016 to 2018. Currently, she holds a position of Assistant Professor at Nantong University and joined the Xia group as a visiting scholar in November 2018. Her research interests include the preparation of functional nanomaterials for applications in bioanalysis and nanomedicine.

GRADUATE STUDENTS

Ming Zhao was born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, China. He received his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering in 2012, M.S. in Materials Physics and Chemistry under Prof. Jianguo Liu in 2015, both from Nanjing University. His M.S. thesis work was focused on the durability test of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of prof. Xia. His research interest includes in the synthesis of nanomaterials for energy-related applications.

Zhiheng Lyu was born in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, China. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from University of Science and Technology of China in 2016, where she worked on noble metal nanocrystals for photocatalysis. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of Prof. Xia. Her research interest includes the shape-controlled synthesis of nanomaterials and their utilization for energy-related applications.

Ruhui Chen was born in Xinjiang province, China. She received her B.E. degree in macromolecule materials and engineering from University of Science and Technology of China in 2017. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in chemistry at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in August 2017. Her research interests focus on the development of novel nanomaterials for tissue engineering and cancer therapy. 

Minghao Xie was born in Qingdao, Shandong province, China. He received his B.S. in Materials Chemistry from Sichuan University in 2015 and M.S. in Materials Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. His previous research was focused on the synthesis of metal nanomaterials for electrocatalysis. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of Prof. Xia. His research interest includes the synthesis of nanomaterials for applications in energy and catalytic processes.

Yifeng Shi was born in Jiangsu province, China. She received her B.S. degree in chemical  engineering from Sichuan University in 2017. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in September 2017.

Annemieke Janssen was born in Leiden, the Netherlands. She received her BS degree in chemistry from Utrecht University in 2016, and her MS in materials science from Imperial College, London in 2017. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in chemistry at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in Fall 2018.

VISITING GRADUATE STUDENTS

Jiawei Zhu was born in Jiangsu Province, China. He received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Nanjing Tech University in 2013. He is pursuing his Ph.D. degree with Prof. Wanqin Jin at Nanjing Tech University. As a jointly supervised student, he joined the Xia Group in November 2017. He is currently working on the synthesis of metal nanocrystals for catalysis and energy-related applications.

Zitao Chen was born in Guangzhou, China. He received his B.S. degree in material science and engineering from South China University of Technology (SCUT) in 2014. He is pursuing his Ph.D. degree with Professor Qinyuan Zhang in State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices at SCUT. As a jointly supervised Ph.D. student, he joined the Xia group in November 2017. His research interests includes developing synthetic protocol of nanostructured material for application in catalysis, renewable energy and sensing.

Zhenming Cao was born in Tai’an, Shandong province, China. He received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology in 2012 from University of Jinan. He is now pursuing his Ph.D. degree with Professor Zhaoxiong Xie at Xiamen University. As a jointly supervised student, he joined the Xia Group in November 2017. His research interest is focused on the synthesis of metal nanocrystals for energy-related applications.

Danni Pei was born in Yixing, Jiangsu province, China. She received her B.S. degree in Material Chemistry from University of Science and Technology of China in 2013, and is pursuing her PhD. degree in Applied Chemistry under Prof. Hanqing Yu. She joined the Xia Group as a visiting student in November 2017. Her research interests involve the fabrication of noble metal and transition metal oxide for energy, environmental and medical applications.

Siqi Huang was born in Henan Province, China. She received her B.S. degree in Wood Science and Technology from Beijing Forestry University in 2014. She is pursuing her Ph.D. degree with Prof. Zhiming Yu at Beijing Forestry University. As a visiting student, she joined the Xia Group in November 2018. Her research interests include the synthesis of nanostructured materials for biomedical applications.

Ying Lyu was born in Zhangshu, Jiangxi province, China. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees both in Applied Chemistry from Nanchang Hangkong University in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He is now pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Materials Chemistry and Physics with Prof. Rong-Jun Xie at Xiamen University. As a jointly supervised Ph.D. student, he joined the Xia group in November 2018. His research interests include development of materials for energy conversion and storage.
