Dr. Younan Xia was born in Jingjiang, Jiangsu, China. He received his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from Harvard University (with Professor George M. Whitesides) in 1996, M.S. degree in inorganic chemistry from University of Pennsylvania (with the late Professor Alan G. MacDiarmid) in 1993, and B.S. degree in chemical physics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1987. He came to the United States in 1991.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR

Jinghui Zhang was born in Shandong province, China. She received her B.S. degree in environmental engineering from Yantai University in 2013 and M.S. degree in environmental engineering from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in 2016. She joined Shanghai Panda Machinery Co., Ltd. in 2016 as a water treatment engineer. In February 2019, she joined the Xia Group as a business administrator for research to manage the business activities of the lab and work with Dr. Xia on a number of different projects.

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWS

Dr. Jichuan Qiu was born in Shandong province, China. He received his B.S. degree in applied chemistry in 2012 and Ph.D. in materials chemistry and physics in 2018 with Professor Hong Liu, both from Shandong University. He joined the Xia group as a visiting graduate student in October 2016 and then started as a postdoctoral fellow in December 2018. His current research interest includes the design and synthesis of nanostructured materials for biomedical applications

GRADUATE STUDENTS

Zhiheng Lyu was born in Jiangsu province, China. She received her B.S. in chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2016, where she worked on noble-metal nanocrystals for photocatalysis. She is pursuing her Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of Prof. Xia. Her research interest includes the shape-controlled synthesis of nanomaterials and their utilization for energy-related applications.

Ruhui Chen was born in Xinjiang province, China. She received her B.E. degree in macromolecular materials and engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2017. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in chemistry at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in August 2017. Her research focuses on the development of new methods for controlling the synthesis of nanostructured materials.

Minghao Xie was born in Shandong province, China. He received his B.S. in materials chemistry from Sichuan University in 2015 and M.S. in materials science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. His previous research was focused on the synthesis of metal nanomaterials for electrocatalysis. He is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of Prof. Xia. His research interest includes the synthesis of nanomaterials for applications in energy and catalytic processes.

Yifeng Shi was born in Jiangsu province, China. She received her B.S. degree in chemical  engineering from Sichuan University in 2017. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in September 2017 and is working on the development of new nanomaterials for heterogeneous catalysis and related applications.

Annemieke Janssen was born in Leiden, the Netherlands. She received her B.S. degree in chemistry from Utrecht University in 2016, and her M..S in materials science from Imperial College, London in 2017. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in chemistry at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in the Fall of 2018 and is working the development of new methods for controlling the crystal phase and surface structure of metal nanocrystals.

Joram Rana was born in Nepal. He received his B.S. degree in biotechnology from Kent State University in 2019. He is working towards a Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech. He joined the Xia group in the fall of 2019. His research interest includes the synthesis of nanostructured materials for drug delivery and controlled release applications.

Veronica Pawlik was born in Teaneck, New Jersey. She received her B.A. in chemistry from Wellesley College in 2019, where she conducted research on the synthesis of nanomaterials. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in chemistry at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in the fall of 2019. Her research interest includes the synthesis of nanostructured materials for catalytic and plasmonic applications.

Chenxiao Wang was born in Jiangxi province, China. He received his B.S. in chemistry from Wuhan University in 2018, where he worked on the synthesis of graphene and related two-dimensional materials. He is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech. He joined the Xia group in the fall of 2019. His research interest includes the controllable synthesis and engineering of novel nanomaterials.

Siyu Zhou was born in Hunan, China. She received her B.S. degree in energy chemical engineering from the South China University of Technology in 2018. She is pursuing her Ph.D. degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Georgia Tech. She joined the Xia group in November 2019 and is working on the synthesis of nanomaterials for applications in energy and catalytic processes.

Quynh Nguyen was born in Bien Hoa, Vietnam. She received her B.S. in chemistry from Agnes Scott College in 2020. As a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) awardee, she joined the Xia group in May 2019 and conducted research related to the growth mechanism of anisotropic nanostructures. She is pursuing her Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of Prof. Xia starting in the fall of 2020. Her research interest includes the shape-controlled synthesis of metal nanocrystals for catalysis and energy-related applications.  

Yuxin Shang was born in Liaoning province, China. She received her B.S. degree in chemistry from Nankai University in 2020, where she worked on the synthesis of coordination polymers for electrocatalysis. She is pursuing her Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of Prof. Xia. Her research interest includes the synthesis of nanostructured materials for applications in energy and catalytic processes.

Jacob Jeskey was born in Akron, Ohio. He received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Kent State University in 2020, where he worked on porous carbon nanospheres for supercapacitance and energy storage. He is pursuing his Ph.D. in chemistry at Georgia Tech under the supervision of Prof. Xia. His research interests include the development of single atom catalysts and nanostructured materials for applications in heterogeneous catalysis

VISITING GRADUATE STUDENTS

Siqi Huang was born in Henan Province, China. She received her B.S. degree in Wood Science and Technology from Beijing Forestry University in 2014. She is pursuing her Ph.D. degree with Prof. Zhiming Yu at Beijing Forestry University. As a visiting student, she joined the Xia Group in November 2018. Her research interests include the synthesis of nanostructured materials for biomedical applications.

Jianchang Xu was born in Shandong Province, China. He received his B.S. degree in Materials Engineering from China University of Petroleum (East China) in 2017. He is pursuing his Ph.D. degree with Prof. Lijuan Zhang at South China University of Technology. As a visiting student, he joined the Xia Group in November 2019 and is working on the synthesis of nanostructured materials for biomedical applications.

Fulin Yang was born in Hubei province, China. He received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Wuhan University in 2014. He is pursuing his Ph.D. degree with Prof. Gongzhen Cheng at Wuhan University. As a visiting student, he joined the Xia group in January 2020 and is working on the design and synthesis of nanomaterials for electrocatalysis and energy applications.
