Dr. Yugang Sun, currently a research scientist at the
Argonne National Laboratory, is a
recipient of the 2007
PECASE Award. The ceremony was held in the White House
on December 19, 2008.
Dr. Dan Li recently took a position of Associate
Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at
Monash University (Australia).
Claire Cobley
received a Best Poster Award at the Materials Research
Society (MRS) fall meeting held in Boston, MA.
Leslie Au recently received the best poster award at the
National Cancer Institute (NCI) Alliance Meeting held in
Washington DC.
Younan Xia was officially installed as the
inaugural James M. McKelvey Professor on September 2.
Dr. Xianmao Lu
accepted
a position of Assistant Professor from the Department of
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at National University
of Singapore.

Eric Lee passed his final exam (thesis defense) and
became the 10th Ph.D. from the Xia group on June 25.
Eric is the 1st Ph.D. since the Xia group relocated to
Washington University in St. Louis.
Alex Briseno passed his final exam (thesis defense) and
became the 9th Ph.D. from the Xia group on June 4.
Alex is the last Ph.D. produced by the Xia group at the
University of Washington.
Dr. Sara Skrabalak
accepted
a position of Assistant Professor from the Department of
Chemistry at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Alex Briseno accepted a position of Assistant Professor
from the Department of Polymer Science at University of
Massachusetts, Amherst.
Alex Briseno has received
three awards this year: i) 2008 ICI Student Award
Finalist in Applied Polymer Science Symposium;
ii) 2006 Frank J.
Padden, Jr. Award for Excellence in Polymer Physics
Graduate Research; and iii) Xerox Technical Minority
Fellowship.
Claire Cobley received a Woman Travel Award from the
American Chemical Society (ACS) to attend the Spring
National Meeting
held in New Orleans.
Eric Formo's paper "Nanostructured Materials by
Electrospinning" was selected to receive the Best
Session Paper Award from the International Nonwoven
Technical Conference (INTC).
The review article "Synthesis of Silver
Nanostructures with Controlled Shapes and Properties"
by Benjamin Wiley, Yugang Sun and Younan Xia,
published in Accounts of Chemical Research (2007,
